Safest Bike Route from Brookfield to Sunset Schools

There is a 2.8mi bicycle route connecting Brookfield neighborhood with Sunset Elementary and Middle Schools that is almost entirely along residential neighborhood roads, sidewalks, or greenways. When I rode with my middle-schoolers, it took us 19 minutes.

There are two road crossings (purple bicycle icon in the map below) that are currently have no painted crosswalk or signage: 1) At the edge of Brookfield, crossing Sunset Rd at Marcasite Dr or Copperstone Dr. 2) Crossing Split Log Rd just beyond the end of the sidewalk along Split Log Rd that branches off from the Sunset Rd greenway. This second crossing involves a short segment (~250ft) of walking or riding along Split Log Rd, with good visibility in both directions.

After crossing Split Log Rd, the route enters a new neighborhood (roads do not yet appear on Google Maps as of 2024-08-27) that connects with the Benington neighborhood.
